Established in 2014, Boursa Kuwait Securities Company is the operator of Kuwait’s national stock market. A pioneer in Kuwaiti privatisation, Boursa Kuwait underwent a two-stage privatisation process, with the first stage occurring in February 2019, when a 44% equity stake was awarded to an international exchange and a group of Kuwaiti investment companies.
The privatisation process concluded in December 2019, when the Capital Markets Authority’s 50% stake was offered to Kuwaiti citizens through an IPO that saw an oversubscription rate of 850 per cent, making Boursa Kuwait one of the first privately owned stock exchanges in the Middle East.
In September 2020, Boursa Kuwait was listed on its own “Premier Market,” becoming one of Kuwait’s few government entities to complete a successful privatisation and listing.
