Suntory’s founder, Shinjiro Torii, dreamed of making a world-class whisky that reflected subtle Japanese sensibilities. In 1923, he took the first step toward realising this vision when he constructed the Yamazaki Distillery, Japan’s first whisky distillery. Over more than 90 years Torii’s unswerving passion and outstanding craftsmanship were passed down to second and third-generation master blenders Keizo Saji and Shingo Torii, who have continued to take Japanese whisky to new heights.
In recognition of its international contribution and passion for whisky making, Suntory was named Distiller of the Year from International Spirits Challenge in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Suntory’s uncompromising pursuit to be the best has won them this converted award for four times.
