Farm Fresh

Farm Fresh Berhad is Malaysia’s largest homegrown dairy company. Through its subsidiaries, the Group operates on a “grass-to-glass” model that engages in the business activities of farming, manufacturing and distributing various dairy and plant-based products.

Since its founding in 2009, Farm Fresh has steadily expanded across the entire grass-to-glass value chain, becoming one of Malaysia’s most iconic homegrown brands. The company started from a humble beginning 16 years ago, when the visionary founder, Loi Tuan Ee, imported 60 Holstein Jersey cows from Australia and set up a farm in Mawai, Johor with an ambitious mission – to offer pure dairy products to Malaysians, free from preservatives and artificial additives, delivered fresh to supermarket shelves. This commitment to freshness and quality quickly became their unique selling point, setting them apart from imported dairy companies that relied on powdered or reconstituted milk. With enthusiastic customer response and support from Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, Farm Fresh has grown by leaps and bounds by gaining a large and loyal customer base attracted to its unique selling point combined with the expansion of its production capacity and successful new product launches.

Farm Fresh currently operates its dairy farms in both Malaysia as well as Australia, across more than 5 thousand acres of land, with a total herd size of more than 13 thousand dairy cows and bulls. The company has introduced over 216 products across various brands including Farm Fresh, Master Barista, Henry Jones, Yarra Farm, Yarra by Farm Fresh and Nubian Goat’s Milk, Jom Cha by Farm Fresh, St David Dairy (Australia), Inside Scoop and Sin Wah Ice Cream.

Farm Fresh’s robust market presence extends across various product segments, from ready to-drink (RTD) chilled and ambient products to yoghurts, plant-based alternatives, and ice cream. Growth has been driven by investments in research and development (R&D), enabling them to introduce innovative products such as dates milk, lactose-free milk and almond milk, as well as Farm Fresh Grow for children, to meet the evolving needs of consumers. Farm Fresh has introduced various new products, including a powder variant of Farm Fresh Grow, Australian organic milk, consumer packaged goods (CPG) ice cream, chocolate malt beverage newly launched cultured milk and butter.

Having ascended to the position of Malaysia’s largest integrated producer of dairy products, Farm Fresh is poised to further expand their presence within the Asia Pacific region. The Group exports its ready-to-drink dairy and plant based products to Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines and Cambodia. The Group has also done reverse investments in farms and milk processing plant in Australia, enabling the Group to source milk from Australia and export the milk ingredient from its factory in Victoria, Australia to Malaysia, the Philippines and other global customers including in the Middle East. Farm Fresh has also commenced operations at its new factory in the Philippines, producing pasteurized milk for the Metro Manila region.

Farm Fresh believes in doing well by doing good. At the heart of Farm Fresh’s core value proposition is a steadfast commitment to delivering nutritious products that are free from preservatives, artificial colourings, flavourings and hidden sugar such as maltodextrin for its chilled, ambient ready-to-drink and powder products. This product ethos has been committed by Farm Fresh since the early days when the focus was on fresh milk right to its growing up milk products which is made with whole milk powder, with all the fortifications and without any unnecessary and harmful additives.

As responsible stewards of the environment, Farm Fresh recognises the imperative to adopt circular practices that minimise waste disposal and maximise resource reuse. By embracing this regenerative approach, Farm Fresh not only help protect and nurture natural ecosystems but also create stronger foundations for its business – which is inextricably linked to the land surroundings – to thrive. These regenerative agriculture practices – introduced across its farms since 2014 – have had a transformative effect on the sustainability of Farm Fresh’s farm operations. They allow to divert substantial volumes of animal waste away from landfills and sewerage systems each year, reducing methane emissions from waste decomposition and chemical treatments, while reducing dependence on external water sources and minimising use of chemical fertilisers. Farm Fresh’s sustainable farming practices was selected by Stewardship Asia Centre (established by Temasek and INSEAD Hoffmann Global Institute for Business and Society) as part of the Steward Leadership 25 (SL25), i.e. 25 inspiring sustainability initiatives in November 2022.

At Farm Fresh, the health and welfare of its livestock is crucial to the quality of its products, the reputation of the brand and the resilience of its business. Healthy, well-treated dairy cows produce the best milk. All Farm Fresh’s farms adhere to Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) as published by the Department of Veterinary Services, which sets detailed standards for animal nutrition, healthcare and housing, the Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices (MyGAP) and standards set by the World Organisation for Animal health. Each farm is supported by a dedicated animal healthcare team lead by an Animal Herd and Veterinarian Manager, alongside qualified veterinarians and animal science graduates. Farm Fresh’s commitment to high welfare standards is affirmed by the Certified Humane ® accreditation, which the Group has received for all completed farms in Malaysia. Farm Fresh is proud being the first dairy company in Asia to obtain the internationally recognised certification, which is only made possible with its compassionate and responsible practices towards the humane treatment of dairy cows.
