Taiwan Beer is a brand of the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL), a Ministry of Finance state-owned enterprise. It began in 1901, with a monopolised business system during the period of the Japanese occupation. In 1947, it reorganised and formed the ‘Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau’, which maintained and used its system until 2002.
In order to prepare for internationalisation and liberalisation, the government decided to abolish the monopoly system of tobacco and liquor products, and to free up the manufacturing of tobacco and liquor, starting from January 1, 2002. Accordingly, the government enacted the ‘Tobacco and Liquor Tax Law’. The name was subsequently changed to the ‘Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation’ on July 1, 2002.
Facing market competition after liberalisation of the production and sale of tobacco and liquor, Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation has upheld the rights and benefits of consumers, providing high quality products, and has taken a social responsibility to become a highly dynamic and competitive marketing corporation.
The business of the company is divided into five major divisions – Marketing & Sales, Beer, Tobacco, Liquor and Biotechnology. We own 9 liquor breweries and distilleries, 4 beer breweries, 3 cigarette plants, 1 printing plant, 8 business offices, and over 100 branches of sale around Taiwan. In the global market, the business operation covers sales and marketing in territories including China, America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
